New to the Rock/Creek Race Team for 2010-
Deb Jones
Age: 23
Occupation: Graduate Student
I am graduate student at UTC who recently got engaged to my best friend. David and I met at Rock Creek and became friends while training for the Stump Jump in 2008. I’m studying rhetoric and composition and hope to teach at a junior college or university when I graduate. Running has been a big part of my life ever since I started seriously pursuing cross country as a freshman in high school. A friend talked me out of softball (thank goodness!) and into cross country for what turned out to be a big turning point in my life. I found a new passion in running and it ended up paying for my college education at Mercer University. The Lord allowed me to enjoy 4 great seasons on a Division I cross-country team competing against amazing runners from all over. Now, I enjoy running on the more rugged terrain of un-manicured mountainous cross-country courses here in Chattanooga, and competing in interesting trail races.
Years Running: 10 years
Favorite Trail Race: The Rock/Creek River Gorge Race is fun and beautiful. I love the trails in Prentice Cooper.
Favorite Training Trail:
The Mullins Cove Loop on Signal Mountain (used for the River Gorge race) is great. I love the views you get throughout the run especially the panoramic vista of river and mountains that you can see if you pause at Snooper’s rock. I also like the trail on Lookout that starts behind Ruby Falls and diverts down to Seyoukah (?) Springs or up to Sunset if you’re looking for a climb. Paris Mountain (near Greenville, SC) is also an awesome spot.

Great Glove for Runners

Describe Yourself: Comfort Oriented, Practical

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments about Icebreaker Glove Liner:
This liner has been one of my best investments in cold weather running gear. I’m pretty hot natured, but when its 30 or 40 degrees out I have to have something on my hands to cut the cold. Many times gloves get too hot after running for only 15 or 20 minutes, but with these merino liners I’m usually able to keep them on the whole time. Wool breathes so well that it is comfortable in a wider range of temperatures. They are also thin and sleek enough to wear as liners under ski/snowboard gloves. Great buy!
Perfect Running Shell
Sizing: Feels true to size
Sleeve Length: Feels true to length
Pros: Lightweight, Great Color, Comfortable, Attractive Design, Versatile
Best Uses: Daily Use, Spring, Summer, Running
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments about Patagonia Nine Trails Jacket (Women’s):
This jacket is great for running in a variety of cool to cold temperatures. It is very lightweight and breathable for a shell, but the front is wind and water proof/resistant. Also, there is room for various weights of base layer underneath. This means that if it is just windy and cool you can wear a dri-fit t-shirt underneath, but if it is freezing cold you could put a light dri-fit/wool tee and a 260 weight piece of wool base layer under it and be quite comfortable. I’ve used it under both sets of conditions and been very pleased with the performance. In rain, it keeps you from getting soaked without stifling you and it cuts the wind without causing you to overheat. The only thing I don’t love is that you can’t push the sleeves up as high as I would like because they are tapered and elasticized to stay put when you do push them up. Sometimes its a good feature, but if I overdressed it can be annoying. Overall, I really like the jacket and even enjoy wearing it around in warmer weather as casual piece because of its light weight.
