Rock/Creek Race Team Member for 2010-
Jim Farmer
Age: 42
Occupation: Software Engineer
This will be my fifth year as a Rock/Creek Trail Team and/or Adventure Racing Team member. Rock/Creek supports the sports I love with the same passion and determination with which I race.
Years Running: 14 years
Why I Love Running:
Ever since I discovered that my 5’8” frame was an advantage on the trails over the “roadies” that beat me consistently on the pavement, I was hooked. I love the mental aspects of off-road racing in general. Brains can beat brawn and experience can outrun genetics when the situation is right. The planning and strategy to optimize my performance, and then rolling with the punches as all those plans turn to mush, is what really gets me juiced. I love the simplicity of it all, despite the fact that I crave complexity most of the time.
Favorite Trail Race:
Because I suffer from the adult version of ADHD, I can’t pick a favorite trail. I love competition though, so any place with great trails and people just a little bit faster than me is my favorite place to run.
Favorite Training Trail: Raccoon Mountain
Tips For Other Runners:
Know your body and give plenty of attention to injury prevention and proper recovery techniques, as well as core strength. This is especially true as age creeps up on you. Ego and bravado have little place in endurance sports. It is the playground of smart athletes. Be one of them.
Lifelong Running Goals:
-Always push myself and see where my limits are
-Have as much fun as humanly possible and drag as many people along with me as I can
-Oh yeah, kick some tail along the way
2010 Races and Past Accomplishments:

Comments about Petzl Myolity 3 headlamp:
If you need a strong light but need to conserve batteries for the long haul then this is the light for you. The LED setting will go all night on a single set of batteries, but having the Xenon bulb will get you out of a jam when necessary.
Old Faithful
Sizing: Feels true to size
Width: feels true to width
Pros: Rugged, Good Traction, Comfortable, Pronation Control
Cons: Weight
Best Uses: All Weather Conditions
Describe Yourself: Competative Athlete

Comments about Montrail Hardrock Running Shoe (Men’s):
These shoes are built for endurance running or hiking. Super traction and roll stability and good toe box make them the perfect shoe for ultra-endurance events. They are the only shoes I trusted when racing multi-day adventure races. I could be on the gnarliest trails staring at my maps and not worry about where my feet were going next. The Hardrock would soak it all up like it was pavement.

Comments about Marmot Precip Jacket and Precip Pants:
These are the jacket and pants that go with me when I don’t know what I’m getting into. Whether it’s unpredictable weather conditions or an undetermined length of time, the Precip Jacket and Precip Pant is the gear that I know will get me through the worst of times. They were with me during the Subaru Primal Quest 10-day adventure race in the Pacific Northwest and are still with me today, looking not much different than the day I bought them.
