Organizers of the Rock/Creek StumpJump 50k today announce that the 2012 race raised $36,000 for trail building and preservation in greater Chattanooga.
This highly-competitive trail running race is the flagship event in the Salomon Rock/Creek Trail Series, and proceeds benefit local trail work.
Professional video from this year’s race is available here.
In its 11th year, the Rock/Creek StumpJump brought a record 850 runners to the beautiful trails of Signal Mountain and Prentice Cooper State Forest.
The race kicked off this year’s RiverRocks Chattanooga festival in style, as early morning rain and lingering fog made for a picturesque day in the woods – and some seriously tricky footing!
With 8 races each year, the Trail Series showcases the outdoor recreation resources of the Chattanooga area, and promotes the sport of trail running while raising crucial funds for these multi-use trail initiatives.
Rock/Creek’s Mark McKnight elaborates:
“This was easily the most successful Rock/Creek trail race to date. (Race director) Randy Whorton and our volunteers work tirelessly alongside our sponsors to pull off an event of this magnitude, and those efforts are what enable us to raise so much money for Chattanooga trails.”
Race sponsors include Salomon, Toyota of Cleveland & Capitol Toyota, Get Out Chattanooga, Patagonia, Collier Construction, SmartWool, The North Face, Marmot, Outdoor Research, Trail Runner Magazine, Hammer Nutrition, Suunto and Whole Foods Chattanooga.
