The Cumberland Trail Conference (CTC) will be hosting a volunteer trail construction event in the trail’s New River Segment from June 10-20.
This segment is in the North Cumberland WMA located in Scott County, Tennessee. This county is located to the northwest of Knoxville. The CTC has a goal of completing the New River segment by June of 2012.
This will be a tent camping outing and volunteers will need to supply their own camping gear. The CTC will have a base camp with a kitchen tent and cook stoves, food and water will be provided but volunteers will be asked to help prepare the meals and with kitchen clean-up. Camping will be at the base camp and volunteers will be leaving from the base camp and walking to the trail construction area. A work day will be from 8am to 4:30pm with a lunch. Volunteers can sign-up for a day or better yet, multiple days. It will be possible to drive vehicles to the base camp location. For those who want to RV or trailer camp, a commercial campground within 7 miles of the trail construction site is available. Please visit www.riversidecampsite.com. The CTC will not be responsible for the camp fee and meals will be at the CTC base camp.
Please register for this event at [email protected] or by calling 931-456-6259. This will help with meal and trail construction planning, directions will be provided. Please consider volunteering and help to create Tennessee’s Cumberland Trail.
