Canoes, Kayaks, and White Water Boats Available at Rock/Creek Down Under

Category: Announcements, Events, Paddling

May 24, 2010 By Rachel Tucker

Rock/Creek Boat Demo DayI arrived with a second batch of hot dogs to throw on the grill for the Rock/Creek Boat Demo Day, held at Camping World of Chattanooga on Sunday May 23rd.
Previously that morning, I experienced the blazing heat outside so I came prepared for my afternoon on the water; sunblock, Outdoor Research Switchback Cap, Chaco Sandals, bathing suit on and camera in hand.
The fleet of boats made available to demo by Rock/Creek was impressive. I’m personally not too familiar with boating, so I found myself eavesdropping on the staff’s conversations with other curious participants.
More than 50 people arrived to demo boats or observe the event. Randy Vining from Ocean Kayak was present for a demonstration of a Kayak rigged up for kayak fishing. Rock/Creek friend and partner in the community, Philip Grymes from Outdoor Chattanooga came with his family for a test run on a kayak and some Rock/Creek employees brought their kids to test their bravery on the boats (all wearing Life Jackets and PFD’s of course).
Once I got on the water, I felt the physical difference between commandeering a white water boat like Jackson Kayaks versus the sleek flow of a 16 foot kayak like the Necky Kayaks Chatham 16 Touring Kayak; Both are equally fun in their perspective sports.
If you were unable to make it to Sunday’s event, Rock/Creek is sharing the exclusive deal we provided to Sunday’s Boat Demo Participants. Below is a Coupon to receive 15% off your Entire Purchase which applies to Canoes, Kayaks, and Boating Specific Accessories. This coupon does not include Sale items or products from The North Face, Oakley, Yakima Racks or GPS units. Click on the image, print out the document, and bring it to Rock/Creek Down Under before it expires on Sunday May 30, 2010.

All in all, it was a great day for a nice change of scenery out on the water rather than trekking in the woods. Thank you to Confluence, Native Watercraft, Johnson Outdoors, and Werner Paddles and thank you to the Rock/Creek staff who helped make the day a fun, light hearted boating experience.
