R/C racer Kevin Boucher outruns Loretta Lynn. I think.

Category: Trail Running

September 25, 2012 By Jeff Bartlett

Rock/Creek Race Team member Kevin Boucher sends this report our way from a small, inaugural trail running event that sounds like a lot of fun. He won all three races, taking the “cumulative stage race” title. Results here.

Event Organizer I Run For the Party put on two days of trail racing out at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in West Tennessee (an hour West of Nashville) last weekend. Three races were offered including a 20-miler on Saturday morning, a 10-miler on Sunday morning, and a 5-miler starting a few hours after the 10-miler on Sunday. Runners could race any of the events individually or race all three in the stage race category.

Loretta’s ranch spans 6500 acres and is covered with a combination of hiking trails, horseback riding trails, and service roads.

While the hills couldn’t compete with the extended climbs of Lookout or Signal mountain, the courses included numerous short steep hills that started to take their toll on your legs by the end of the weekend.

This was the inaugural year for the event and attendance should grow over the next few years due to the quality of the trails, the stage-race option, and the fact that the runners can either rent a cabin, camp, or park their RV right by the starting line. The ranch also offers horseback riding and canoeing. While trail running events are new to the ranch, the ranch typically hosts several motocross events each year.

As an interesting side note, R/C Race Team Member Lance Steele, the World’s Most Versatile Man, has raced motocross at the Ranch.
