Two of the hottest new trail running shoes on the market, the Merrell Barefoot Trail Glove and Salomon XR Crossmax, have received “best debut” honors in a Runner’s World review of trail runners. Here at Rock/Creek, we are pretty passionate about trail running, and both shoes are among the lineup of trail running shoes we’re carrying for this season!
Here’s what RW had to say about the Salomon XR Crossmax…
“A durable new shoe that’s built for the long haul, the XR Crossmax is surprisingly flexible for the amount of thick cushioning it offers …. its comfort also comes from an internal bootie that prevents any upper stitching from rubbing the foot the wrong way. Recommended as a grippy ride for long runs across a mix of even and uneven trails.”
…and what they thought of the Merrell Barefoot Trail Glove!
“The bare-bones Trail Glove combines a durable Vibram outsole with a traditional mesh lace-up upper—and not much else. It has a superlow heel height (only 10.7 millimeters off the ground) that leaves very little between your foot and the ground. Recommended as a training tool for efficient runners.”
While Runner’s World has focused this review on men’s trail running shoes, both shoes are also available for women. The women’s version of the Merrell Trail Glove is called the Merrell Pace Glove, and Salomon makes a Women’s XR Crossmax as well.
The Brooks Cascadia 6 and Montrail Rogue Racer, both of which are currently available at Rock/Creek and rockcreek.com, likewise made RW’s list. You can read the original article at the Runner’s World website here, and the video reviews they’ve provided are linked below.
