We’re happy to announce that the Scenic City Adaptive Paddling project has been awarded a $1,000 grant from Outdoor Nation, part of their Outsiders Ball Project Fund. This grant request was a collaboration between Rock/Creek and Chattanooga Therapeutic Recreation Services, and we think it’s a great example of the potential for partnerships between private companies and public entities to support city programming.
Chattanooga TRS was established in 2000 with a mission to provide leisure and recreation opportunities for citizens of all abilities and their families. We’ve worked with director Elaine Adams for years to help fund and advance these programs; we’ve written previously about the adaptive climbing series, and we’ve previously collaborated with TRS to obtain necessary funding by sponsoring similar grant proposals.
The $1,000 will fund the expansion of the program by adding a tandem kayak to the fleet, helping to met the growing need for engaging individuals with disabilities and their family members. Having someone in the boat is a great way to help teach the new paddler, from steering the boat to literally providing hand-over-hand assistance if needed.
