The Southern 6 Trail Race is this Sunday!

Category: Announcements, Rock/Creek Trail Series, Trail Running, Trail Work, Access & Environment

February 14, 2011 By Jeff Bartlett

The 2011 Rock/Creek Trail Series kicks off this Sunday, February 20, at Southern Adventist University, with the running of the third-annual Southern 6(k).  Weather forecasts suggest that temperatures will be in the low 60s with a mix of clouds and sun, so it should be a beautiful day to hit the trails!

If you would like to participate but haven’t signed up yet, online registration is now closed, but you can still register in person the day of the event.  Same-day registration will open at 11 AM Eastern time; please note that these entrants will not receive an event t-shirt.

The Rock/Creek Trail Series is presented by Rock/Creek. Full race details can be found here, including driving directions from downtown Chattanooga. For a map of the 6k course, click here. Any further questions you may have about the race can be emailed to [email protected].

Our Southern 6 race page features video from last year’s race and provides this synopsis:

“Southern Adventist University, and Rock/Creek present the Southern Six Trail Race. This is a short, family-friendly event taking place on Southern’s beautiful Biology Trail. Everyone ages 12 and above is invited to participate in the 6k trail race and compete for prizes, including ceramic mugs created by local potter Loren Howard. Children ages 12 and under are encouraged to participate in the second-annual Kid K! Door prizes will also be available. Proceeds from the event will go directly to the University’s Outdoor Leadership program and will help with development and maintenance of the Biology Trail.”

Worried last season’s shoes won’t make it through another event? Visit Rock/Creek (or the new-and-improved rockcreek.com) and browse our selection of trail running shoes. We carry the best from Montrail, Salomon, La Sportiva, Brooks, Vasque, The North Face, Saucony and more.

Don’t forget to check back here after the race, as we’ll be posting race results and photos as soon as they’re available!

UPDATE: The online registration deadline has been extended 24 hours, and will now be available until 8 AM Eastern time on Tuesday, February 15. This gives the procrastinators among us one last chance to sign up in time to receive a shirt. Go here now (seriously, right now) if you spent the day thinking you’d waited too long!
