This year’s volunteer opportunities are being planned and distributed to the Chattanooga community, all promising a great Spring and Summer season filled with hard work and fun in the mountains.
Join the Cumberland Trail Conference in their continued trail building effort. Their mission is to complete the 300 plus mile of trail beginning at Cumberland Gap National Park on the northern border of TN/KY and ending in the “Grand Canyon” of Tennessee, the Tennessee River Gorge.
The 2011 Spring trail work opportunities are the following:
April 8-17, 2011: New River section trail construction, volunteers needed to help construct trail along the east side of Arch Mountain in Scott County. This will be a camping outing with camp meals/ water provided by the CTC. Volunteers will need to bring their own tent, sleeping gear, and personal items. June 4, 2011: National Trails Day, this day will be celebrated during the June 2-12 New River volunteer trail construction event. A cookout will be held after the workday, an AHS NTD t-shirts will be given to all participates. June 24-27, 2011: Trail maintenance, Obed segment of the Cumberland Trail, volunteers are needed to assist with removing fallen trees, repairing trail tread, and re-blazing the trail. Rock/Creek has supported the CTC through donation of money and time for several years. The Rock/Creek Trail Series runs participants along trails built and maintained by enthusiastic volunteers.
