Wild Trails announces the second $2000 grant

Category: Announcements, Chattanooga Local News, Trail Work, Access & Environment

February 15, 2011 By Jeff Bartlett

As we mentioned in this space yesterday, Wild Trails is announcing the five recipients of the new Wild Trails Grant Program this week. Each grant is in the amount of $2000, and the series of grants is designed to support organizations that further the expansion and protection of trails in the greater Chattanooga area.

This afternoon, Wild Trails has revealed that the second grant will be awarded to the Lula Lake Land Trust, assisting in creating trail signage for the new Five Points Trail System on Lookout Mountain.

This excerpt from the announcement details the Five Points plan:

“The Five Points area will be comprised of approximately 20 miles of multi-use recreational trails. New trail construction is approximately 14 miles, and existing road/trail use is 6 miles. When complete, the Five Points area will be served by 2 parking areas, one on Hwy. 157 and a larger one on Ascalon Rd. The Five Points area is currently closed to recreational use; the expected opening date is mid-Summer 2011.”

Proceeds from the Rock/Creek Trail Series provide funding for Wild Trails to continue carrying out its mission, and all of us here at Rock/Creek look forward to exploring this new trail system later this year! To read more about the Lula Lake Land Trust, visit their site here.
