Rock/Creek’s flagship retail location on Chattanooga’s North Shore, next to Whole Foods.

2 North Shore is our flagship store in Chattanooga, for a variety of reasons. It’s the largest in the Rock/Creek family, covers the widest variety of outdoor sports, and represents the latest version of our “original” store which started in 1987 over on Hixson Pike. Our home in North Chattanooga puts us in the shadow of Stringers Ridge, convenient to downtown via Highway 27 and steps away from the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge. You can ride the free electric shuttles to the North Shore and walk down Manufacturers Road to see us. We have a Bike Chattanooga station in the parking lot, just past the electric car chargers.

At the 2 North Shore Rock/Creek we cater to outdoor enthusiasts looking for camping gear, hiking boots, shoes and clothing. Some of our most popular summer items include Chaco sandals, ENO hammocks, and Patagonia swimwear. During the winter you’ll see plenty of warm fleece layers, down jackets and outerwear from our favorite brands like Marmot, Mountain Hardwear, and Arc’Teryx. The footwear section in the back draws a crowd with a full selection of climbing shoes, casual options, and trail running shoes as well. Ask for a full shoe fitting, including measuring on the Brannock device and evaluation of your unique needs based on foot shape and sizing. Our footwear experts like Jim Sapere can outfit you with supportive insoles from Superfeet, compression socks from SmartWool or from locally-owned company, Sockwell. If you spend time on your feet, we can help make you more comfortable with a full system that meets your needs.

We have experts who have hiked long distance on trails like the Appalachian Trail, and all of our staff go through extensive training with our vendors so you can make sure you’re getting the right size Osprey pack for example.

Rock/Creek’s rock climbing gear section offers one of the most complete collections of harnesses, aid and big wall gear, crash pads, passive pro, cams, and all the little items you need like chalk balls, brushes, tape, runners, etc. If we don’t have it, you probably don’t need it, or we can certainly special order for you.

The store finds its home in a LEED Silver development, the first in Tennessee to attain that distinction. A variety of innovations went into the construction of the 2 North Shore Rock/Creek, such as energy-efficient heating and cooling, natural daylighting, simple and durable concrete floors (which means no petroleum and waste generated from carpets), and re-used materials. In fact, the big wood beams holding up the awning on the front of our building were constructed from our old warehouse which was located across the street where the One North Shore condos now stand. The plot of land was used for manufacturing for the railroad, with creosote and other waste products making the land a little less than “green” before we came in and stabilized that polluted ground. We capture rainwater for irrigation so we’re not using as much treated water. We have a solar array and electric vehicle charging stations to help offset the energy we pull from the grid. You can even tour the property to read about some of these green practices. Just look for the small plaques with numbers.
