Patagonia Holiday Shopping Guide: A Tic List of ideas for this Christmas

Looking for the perfect piece of gear for that family trip to Whistler or something to wear when cruising down to the local bison burger joint this holiday season? Rock/Creek has everything you need to get for your friends and family–from warm and insulating Down and Synthetic Jackets, to moisture wicking Baselayers or that awesome waterproof jacket. Come visit any of our two stores (Rock/Creek at Two North Shore & Rock/Creek at Hamilton Place) or jump online at rockcreek.com to check out the Down Sweater for Men and Women, or the NEW Patagonia Nano Puff -an instant cult classic here at Rock/Creek. We’re stocked to our eyelids with winter gear such as socks, hats, scarves and scarves, and are ready and waiting for your picking and choosing pleasure with Patagonia’s hottest items for the coldest weather.

From sitting by a fire on a snowy downy-white day, to taking advantage of the 2,500 areas of in-bound terrain and 3000+ acres of open backcountry in Jackson Hole, we’ve compiled a holiday shopping guide here at Rock/Creek to help you choose the perfect gift for those outdoor voyagers , adventuresome explorers and everyone in-between.

For the Adventurer Woman:
For the adventuresome woman, who needs the tools to have her own epic outside, give her the Patagonia Micro Puff Vest. With the same features as the coveted Micro Puff Hooded Jacket, this vest is highly compressible, so you can shove it, squeeze it and compress it into your purse, pack or in its own stuff sack. During variable conditions, The Micro Puff Vest is versatile and is not a big, bulky hassle to carry, giving it as much importance as a good pair of shoes, some socks, or an icy cold beer in hand. The ultra-compressible PrimaLoft (100grams) is housed by a windproof DWR (durable water repellant) shell fabric, which makes it outstanding in both semi-wet and dry, cold conditions.
The Women’s Patagonia R4 Jacket will be a perfect gift to fill her need if she’s looking for a midlayer on a cold day, or to wear on its own as a durable, fleece outer layer. Made of a sturdy micro-fleece, this jacket features windproof protection with its eight-ounce Polartec Windbloc polyester laminated to 6.5-ounce R1 (Polartec Power Dry). The Patagonia R1 pullover layer enhances breathability and mobility in the underarm panels and the seamless shoulders allow you to comfortably wear a pack.
For a lighter fleece layer, the Women’s Re- Tool Full- Zip Jacket or the Re-Tool Snap-T Pullover, are both technical fleece tops to pull on when the temps drop. The fleece on the jacket and pullover wick moisture and dry quickly so you can be as active as you want, and stay safe and warm.

For the Adventurer Man:
If the plan is to shred in the Bozeman’s Bridger Bowl on a quick three-day trip in February, the standard down jacket or simple hardshell doesn’t have the performance power or umph that he needs for the epic-cold conditions. Help him plan ahead with the Patagonia Primo Down Jacket, which combines the Patagonia Down Sweater for Men (also one of our mega best sellers) with its lightweight construction and ripstop shell, and the Primo Flash Jacket. With this combo, Patagonia brings you the granddaddy of all mountain jackets – the Primo Down Jacket – which is the serious hubba hubba for the mountain lovers, and deep-freeze enthusiasts.
The combination of the waterproof shell with a 700-fill-power down insulation, makes this three-layer jacket ideal for big mountain skiers or riders in a variety of conditions. The unique versatility of the Primo Down allows it to perform in wet, cold climates just as well as dry ones, and the liner incorporates ventilating mesh panels between the down and the outer layer to keep fresh air flowing between insulation and shell. This feature is highly important as it helps keep you drier so you don’t sweat out and get hypothermic when you stop.

Even the best slopes in the U.S. need a good base. The Patagonia Capilene Baselayer collection is the uber-warm, ultra comfortable line of tops and bottoms for both men and women that provide the ideal warmth to breathability ratio. Highly breathable, while also offering odor control which makes everyone around your man happy, and he’ll thank you when the silky smooth baselayer keeps him warm and dry while he’s ripping through powder on the slopes.
For a heavier weight, to slide on over a Capilene, check out Patagonia’s R1 Pullover for men. Breathable and highly versatile in its uses, the R1 has a high/low grid interior that enhances compressibility and airflow, while offering moisture-wicking properties that keep you warm and safe while playing in the winter wonderland. Staying with the idea of versatility, the R1 Pullover is just as comfortable in the backcountry as it is wearing to dinner at 6 after a day shredding hills. The R1 series is made with fully recyclable polyester R1 fabric – see Patagonia Common Threads Recycling Program .

For staying closer to home:
Winter walks with Fido, a local light hike, or waiting for that foot-long on the city street corner stand–if you’re looking for gear to wear when kicking around town, but also something that can quickly transform into something more technical, Rock/Creek suggests this awesome gear from Patagonia:

In the lightweight, alpine insulation series, the Patagonia Men’s Nano Puff and Women’s Nano Puff are the mega, instant-classic, primo, “creme-de-la-creme” pullovers. The Nano Puff is a highly compressible, go-anywhere, half-zip pull-over, which can be used as layering insulation or simple outerwear in cold weather. The versatile 60-gram PrimaLoft One polyester offers exceptional warmth and is perfect for stashing in your purse or pack for nighttime winter outings. Since it packs into its own left chest pocket, you can easily have it stashed for that spur-of-the-moment bouldering session, packed away for a light hike, or even for a second layer under a shell while skiing. Wind- and water-resistant, the Nano Puff jacket is a man’s (oh, and might we add woman’s) very best friend.

The Women’s Retro-X Jacket is great when the weather is still chilly, but not too cold. Wear it alone when getting out for a night on the town as a warm fleece jacket that keeps the winter chill out. Made with 78 percent recycled polyester pile, with a moisture-wicking, brushed mesh liner that keeps her dry when chasing after the kids at the park. The slim fit, will flatter her figure, and the Supplex nylon panels on the sides and under the sleeves reduces bulk, while allowing for better body movement.

For him, check out the Better Sweater Jacket. This full-zip fleece combines the ease of fleece with the beauty and style of a wool jacket, a combination that makes kicking around your favorite town part of the simple life.

Looking for that perfect messenger bag that can do it all? Grab a MiniMass or HalfMass Messenger Bag, and take off into the city, work, or school on your choice of transportation.
These and countless other Patagonia products are available in stores or on the Web at rockcreek.com.
