New spring styles are here, and right now you can get them at great prices during our weekend Patagonia sale, so this seems like an excellent time to talk about some of our favorite Patagonia clothing. It’s easy to make “top ten” lists, but let’s keep it simple here and focus on three classic styles for men and another three for women.
Hey, we live in the southeastern US, which means playing outside during long, hot, humid summer weather is our specialty. Here is a list of our favorites, with updates and new colors for 2014:
Alright, let’s start here. I cannot describe how wonderful this shirt feels against your skin on a hot day; the higher the humidity, the harder Patagonia’s open weave works to keep you cool. The organic cotton crinkle fabric can’t be beat.
Seriously, there’s nothing else out there that allows this much airflow and looks this good. The variety of available colors makes it all-too-easy to buy two.
Patagonia Layering Racerback Tank (women’s)
Patagonia women’s clothing is always versatile, and the Layering Racerback is one of the most versatile styles in this year’s collection. It’s long enough for yoga, climbing or early-morning runs. It’s stylish enough to wear alone, but layers well with everything. It dries quickly enough to earn its spot in your carry-on.
At the end of the day, everyone needs a great tank top in their quiver, and this one is our very favorite.
Patagonia Trout Fitz Roy Polo Shirt (men’s)
Everybody needs a polo shirt, and I’m sure you have one in your collection already. The question, then, is if you’re wearing some bargain-bin variety, or if you’re bringing this out of the closet and convincing her parents that you clean up nice after all. Plus, you know you love that Patagonia fish logo.
Made from organic cotton, with the high-quality construction you expect from Patagonia sportswear.
Patagonia Kamala Skirt (women’s)
This is that one piece that should be in your suitcase every single time: it’s a breezy, summer-weight skirt that converts into a dress! Wear it over a bikini bottom at the beach, take it hiking and then wear it to dinner. The Kamala goes everywhere in style.
The wide, shirred waistband and asymmetrical A-line shape mean it’s not just versatile, it’s flattering. Made from a blend of organic cotton and tencel for the ultimate in eco-friendly comfort.
Patagonia Stretch Wavefarer Board Shorts (men’s)
It’s been a couple of years since Patagonia upped the ante on their classic Wavefarer board shorts with this stretch-fabric version, and it’s quickly become a best-seller. Trust us: we LIVE in Stretch Wavefarers and a pair of Chacos all summer.
The durable nylon/spandex blend dries fast, the seams are thoughtfully placed, the pocket is self-draining and the zipper won’t corrode. Read more about Patagonia board shorts here.
Patagonia Torrentshell Jacket (women’s)
I know, I know, it’s a rain jacket. Not to be a buzzkill here, but spring means spring rains, and even summer trips to tropical climes bring afternoon thunderstorms. Be ready for unexpected adventure with this affordable, top-quality rain jacket.
Packed with thoughtful features and available in a full slate of fun colors, the Patagonia Torrentshell is a premium version of the ubiquitous packable raincoat.
Obviously, there is a LOT more to the Spring 2014 Patagonia offering, and we carry every last style at rockcreek.com, but these are the pieces we’re willing to call the best of the best. They’re a few of the pieces you’ll see our staff wearing all summer, at the crag and the river as well as on the shop floors. Patagonia is a brand we genuinely believe in, and we think you will too.
