Rock/Creek Acquired by Gearhead Outfitters

Dear Friends,

We’ll get straight to the point: Rock/Creek has just been acquired by Gearhead Outfitters, a specialty outdoor retailer based in Arkansas. This is a transition that we are extremely excited about, as it allows us to renew our tradition as a grassroots retailer.

You probably remember that Rock/Creek became a holding of Camping World in April of 2018, and we hope you would agree that our authenticity, dedication and expertise never wavered throughout that chapter.

As we turn the page and become a part of Gearhead, we promise once again to remain the friendly neighborhood store that you turn to for equipment, expertise and a healthy dose of outdoor enthusiasm.

Many of you are familiar with the story of Rock/Creek. We were founded in 1987 by two local outdoor educators, Marvin Webb and Dawson Wheeler, who envisioned and created a way to support the community and advocate for wild spaces through retail. Their legacy has rippled through the outdoor community over the past 32 years through trail building, environmental stewardship and a simple desire to get more people outside.

Gearhead’s origin story is remarkably similar: Ted Herget started the company out of a friend’s house in 1997 because he felt called to help people in his hometown live healthy, active lifestyles. Today Gearhead operates 10 storefronts throughout the Midsouth, and strives to get people outdoors and create positive change through nonprofit partnerships.

Every trail has twists and turns, and Rock/Creek’s is no exception. We’re overjoyed to make the transition back to our roots of private ownership, and we look forward to continuing our adventure with Gearhead as a partner.

Now/Forever,

The Rock/Creek Team
